Traveling to Kalahari Outfitters

There are some options traveling to Kalahari Outfitters as for it is a great distance from Johannesburg. You can either travel by road or fly in with charter to Kalahari Outfitters and land on the property itself. Travel cost is not included by the daily rate or the safari.

Travel Information

Getting to South Africa

All international guests will arrive in Johannesburg, South Africa. From the USA, there are daily direct flights from Atlanta, Washington D.C., and New York. From Canada, there are also daily flight options available.

If needed, we have a flight booking agent who can assist you with your travel arrangements to make the process easier.

Once in Johannesburg, you have two travel options to reach Kalahari Outfitters:

• By road: Approximately a 7-hour scenic drive.
• By air charter: A 1½-hour flight in a small private aircraft.

Kalahari Outfitters has its own airstrip available on the property for your convenience.

Arrival at OR Tambo International Airport

Some flights arrive in the morning and others late at night.
• Morning arrivals: You can continue your journey directly to Kalahari Outfitters the same day.
• Evening arrivals: We recommend spending the night at one of the comfortable hotels near OR Tambo Airport. Several excellent options are available within a few minutes’ walk.

Shuttle to Kalahari Outfitters

We partner with a professional shuttle company to ensure your travel is smooth and stress-free.
Your driver will meet you at the hotel reception (if overnighting) or at the airport arrival area (if arriving in the morning), holding a Kalahari Outfitters sign for easy recognition.

The shuttle includes refreshments and snacks, with stops along the way if needed.
If you wish, you can visit Safari Outdoor en route for last-minute gear or curios.

Private Charter Option

Guests opting for a private charter will be collected by our shuttle driver and transferred to the smaller regional airport (approximately 50 minutes away).
There you’ll be introduced to your pilot and crew, who will fly you directly to Kalahari Outfitters.

Arrival at Kalahari Outfitters

Our friendly team will be waiting to welcome you—either at the airstrip or at the lodge.
Enjoy a refreshing welcome drink and meet our camp staff, who will help you get settled into your room.

The first day is all about relaxing and adjusting after your travels.
We’ll complete some light paperwork, sight-in your rifles, and end the day with a leisurely game drive to introduce you to the beauty of our area
